Half-Staff Michigan State Flags – Honoring Justin Hansen

American Flags and Michigan Flags to fly at half-staff Friday, August 3rd in the state of Michigan in honor of US Marine Sgt. Justin Hansen.

According to the office of the governor:
US Marine Sgt. Hansen died July 24 while conducting combat operations in Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 2nd Marine Special Operations Battalion, Camp Lejeune, N.C. Sgt. Hansen attended the School of Infantry at Camp Pendleton, Calif. He was first stationed at the 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion at Camp Schwab in Okinawa, Japan, and later deployed with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit. Hansen joined the Special Operations Command in June 2009. He served a tour of duty in Iraq and was serving his second tour in Afghanistan. Hansen received a Purple Heart, two Combat Action Ribbons and two Good Conduct Medals.

Flags are also authorized for display at half-staff in the City of Norfolk.

American Flags and Arizona Flags to fly at half-staff Monday, July 30th in the state of Arizona in honor of US Army Staff Sergeant Carl Hammar.

According to the office of the governor:
Staff Sgt. Carl E. Hammar died July 14, due to injuries sustained when his dismounted patrol came under enemy small arms fire in Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. Staff Sgt. Hammar was a member of the 1st Battalion, 501st Infantry Regiment, 4th Airborne Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, and assigned to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, located near Anchorage, Alaska.

Half-Staff North Carolina Flags – Recognizing Korean War Veterans Armistice Day

North Carolina state flags to fly at half-staff Friday, July 27th in the state of North Carolina in recognition of Korean War Veterans Armistice Day.

According to the office of the governor:
The N.C. Division of Veterans Affairs states that more than 177,000 North Carolina citizens served in Korea between June1950 and January 1955. It is estimated that more than 72,000 of these veterans are still living in North Carolina today, as well as many of their descendants.

According to the office of the governor:
“The President’s flag order expires today, though the Governor’s order to keep flags lowered (both the U.S. and state flags) is still in effect. We intend to keep flags lowered until the last funeral and/or memorial service is complete.”

American Flags to fly at half-staff throughout the country Friday, July 20th through Wednesday, July 25th out of respect for the victims of the shooting in Aurora, Colorado.

According to the Office of the President:
As a mark of respect for the victims of the senseless acts of violence perpetrated on July 20, 2012, in Aurora, Colorado, by the authority vested in me as President of the United States by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, I hereby order that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset, July 25, 2012. I also direct that the flag shall be flown at half-staff for the same length of time at all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations.
