Half-Staff New Jersey Flags – Honoring Zoltan Dobovich

American Flags and New Jersey Flags to fly at half-staff Thursday, December 27th in the state of New Jersey in honor of US Army Staff Sergeant Zoltan Dobovich. Staff Sgt. Dobovich was last accounted for on Nov. 1, 1946 when his B-17G Flying Fortress crashed into the French Alps killing him and seven others. His remains have been identified and returned to his family and is set for burial with full military honors.

Half-Staff New Mexico Flags – Honoring Ben Lujan

American Flags and New Mexico Flags to fly at half-staff Saturday, December 22nd through Saturday, December 29th in honor of New Mexico House of Representative Speaker Ben Lujan. Rep. Lujan served in the New Mexico House of Representatives for nearly 40 years. He had held the position of Speaker since 2001.

According to the office of the governor:
Speaker Lujan began his public service as a Santa Fe County Commissioner from 1971-74, serving as chairman for the last two years of his term. In 1974, Speaker Lujan was elected to the State House of Representatives, District 46. During Speaker Lujan’s time in the state House of Representatives, he served as the longest consecutive House Majority Whip in New Mexico history from 1983-98, Majority Floor Leader from 1999-2000, and Speaker of the House of Representatives from January 2001 until his passing. Speaker Lujan was a member of many standing legislative committees, interim committees and national committees during his tenure in the House of Representatives, fighting for causes near and dear to New Mexicans from all walks of life. Speaker Lujan was greatly involved with his community by supporting and providing funding for local little league teams and the Boys and Girls Club while also remaining actively involved with the Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Pojoaque.

Half-Staff Pennsylvania Flags – Honoring Nicolas Checque

Pennsylvania Flags to fly at half-staff Friday, December 21st in honor of US Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Nicolas Checque. The flag order applies to flags at the Capitol Complex and at facilities in Allegheny County. Checque, a 10-year decorated member of Navy SEAL Team Six, was killed Dec. 9 in Afghanistan during a mission to rescue an American doctor captured by the Taliban.

North Carolina State Flags to fly at half-staff Friday, December 21st in honor of Senator Ed Jones. Sen. Ed Jones represented Halifax, Vance and Warren counties and parts of Nash and Wilson counties. Jones was a 30-year state trooper, former police chief of Enfield and later its mayor. He served two years in the House before joining the Senate in 2007.

Sgt. 1st Class Lipari died December 14th in Afghanistan. He was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company of the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, based in Bamberg, Germany.

American Flags to fly at half-staff Tuesday, December 18th through Friday, December 21st throughout the United States in honor of Senator Daniel Inouye, President pro tempore of the Senate.

According to the Office of The President:
As a mark of respect for the memory and longstanding service of Senator Daniel K. Inouye, President pro tempore of the Senate, I hereby order, by the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, and consistent with President Nixon’s Proclamation 3948, that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset on the day of his interment. I further direct that the flag shall be flown at half-staff for the same period at all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations.

American Flags and New York Flags to fly at half-staff Thursday, December 20th in the State of New York in honor of US Army Staff Sgt. Nicholas Reid.

According to the office of the governor:
Army Staff Sgt. Nicholas J. Reid died in Landstuhl, Germany from wounds suffered in Sperwan Village, Afghanistan when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. Reid was assigned to the 53rd Ordnance Company (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) of the 3rd Ordnance Battalion (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) based at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington state.
