Half-Staff Washington Flags – Honoring James Groth

American Flags and Washington State Flags to fly at half-staff Sunday, March 16th in honor of US Army Pfc James Groth. Pfc. Groth was assigned to Ft. Bragg’s Bravo Battery, 3rd Battalion, 321st Field Artillery Regiment. He died as a result of injuries suffered in a training accident February 21st. His awards include the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.

Half-Staff Florida Flags – Honoring Reubin Askew

American Flags and Florida Flags to fly at half-staff beginning Thursday, March 14th in the State of Florida in honor of former Governor Reubin Askew. Askew was the 37th Governor of Florida and was the first to serve consecutive four year terms. He was a veteran of both the US Army, he enlisted in 1946, and the US Air Force, he served during the Korean War. His career in politics started in 1958 when he was elected to the Florida House of Representatives. He went on to serve in the Florida Senate in 1962. Askew begin his first term as Governor in 1970.

Flags are to remain at half-staff until the day of interment, which has not yet been determined.

Half-Staff Pennsylvania Flags – Honoring William Guarnere

Thursday, March 13th, 2014

American Flags and Pennsylvania Flags to fly at half-staff Friday, March 14th at the Capitol Complex and in Philadelphia County in honor of World War II Veteran William Guarnere. Guarnere served in the US Army during WWII with Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, in the 101st Airborne Division. His life and exploits were part of the “Band of Brothers” mini-series.
