Half-Staff New York Flags – Honoring Richard Pedro

American Flags and New York Flags to fly at half-staff Thursday, January 16th in the State of New York in honor of Richard Pedro. Mr. Pedro served in the US Navy from 1944 to 1947 during World War II. Following his discharge, he began what would become a long career of serving Veterans. Mr. Pedro served as an active member of the American Legion over sixty-five years. His service included being National Commander of the American Legion, Commander, New York State American Legion and 29 years as the Adjutant of the New York State American Legion. In 2012, Pedro was awarded the honorary title of Past National Commander.

Half-Staff Kentucky Flags – Honoring William Lacey

American Flags and Kentucky Flags to fly at half-staff Thursday, January 16th in the Commonwealth of Kentucky in honor of US Army Sgt. 1st Class William Lacey. Sgt. 1st Class Lacey died of injuries suffered when his unit was attacked with rocket propelled grenades while serving in Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. Lacey joined the US Army in 2003 and was serving his 5th tour (3 in Iraq and 2 in Afghanistan).

Half-Staff Virginia Flags – Honoring Michael Phillippi

American Flags and Virginia Flags to fly at half-staff Tuesday, January 14th in the Commonwealth of Virginia in honor of Virginia State Police Sergeant J. Michael Phillippi. Phillippi died while on duty this past weekend. His patrol car was found after it veered off the road and struck an embankment. Phillippi joined the Virignia State Police in 1971.

Half-Staff Washington State Flags – Honoring Jacob Hess

American Flags and Washington State Flags to fly at half-staff Monday, January 13th in honor of USMC Sergeant Jacob Hess. Sgt. Hess died while supporting combat missions as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. He was a member of Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 26, Marine Aircraft Group 26, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Half-Staff Maryland Flags – Honoring Bishop L. Robinson Sr.

Maryland Flags to fly at half-staff Tuesday, January 7th through Wednesday, January 8th in honor of Bishop Lee Robinson Sr. Mr. Robinson served a 50 year career in law enforcement with the Baltimore City police. He joined the police department in 1952 as a foot patrolman and worked his way to becoming the first African-American Police Commissioner in 1984. Mr. Robinson later served as Maryland State Secretary of Public Safety and Correctional Services and then was Secretary of Juvenile Justice.

Half-Staff Colorado Flags – Honoring David Lyon

American Flags and Colorado Flags to fly at half-staff Wednesday, January 8th in the State of Colorado in honor of US Air Force Captain David Lyon.  Captain Lyon was killed while serving in Afghanistan when an improvised explosive device was detonated near his convoy.  Captain Lyon was assigned to the 21st Logistics Readiness Squadron, Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado Springs, Colorado and was working with the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force-Afghanistan.

Half-Staff Oklahoma Flags – Honoring Randy Billings

Friday, January 3rd, 2014

American Flags and Oklahoma Flags to fly at half-staff Friday, January 3rd through Sunday, January 5th in the State of Oklahoma in honor of US Army Chief Warrant Officer 2 Randy Billings. CW2 Billings, along with 5 fellow soldiers, were killed in a helicopter crash while serving in Afghanistan. Billings had been in the service for 16 years and had served two deployments to Afghanistan and two in Iraq. He was assigned to 3rd Assault Helicopter Battalion from Ft. Riley, Kansas.
