American Flags and Maine Flags to fly at half-staff Tuesday, August 13th in the State of Maine in honor of Gen. John Deane Jr.

Gen. Deane had a 40-year career in the US Army and was named a Four-Star General in 1975. His awards include Distinguished Service Cross (2), Army Distinguished Service Medal (3), Silver Star (3), Legion of Merit (2), Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal (25), Purple Heart, Bronze Star with V Device and the Combat Infantry Badge.

Half-Staff Hawaii Flags – Honoring Robert Fukuda

American Flags and Hawaii Flags to fly at half-staff Sunday, August 11th in the State of Hawaii in honnor of former state Rep. Robert Fukuda.

Fukuda worked as a Japa­nese language interpreter/translator for the US Army Military Intelligence Service during World War II. For this service, he was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in 2010.

According to the office of the governor:
In 2010, Gov. Tomblin appointed Dr. Lewis as Cabinet Secretary for DHHR, where he served until he resigned due to illness in June 2012.

Half-Staff West Virginia Flags – Honoring Joe Smith

West Virginia Flags to fly at half-staff Friday, August 9th in honor of former Delegate and Mayor Joe F. Smith.

According to the office of the governor:
Joe F. Smith was elected to the Charleston City Council in 1967 and then as Charleston City Treasurer in 1975. While serving in this capacity he was appointed to fulfill the unexpired mayoral term of John Hutchison. Smith later served as a member of the House of Delegates for the 30th District.

Pennyslvania Flags to fly at half-staff Sunday, August 11th through Tuesday, August 13th at the Capitol Complex and in Monroe County in honor the victims of the Saylorsburg township shooting. James LaGuardia, Gerard Kozic and David Fleetwood were all three killed when a gunman opened fire during a town meeting.

Half-Staff Michigan Flags – Honoring David Plawecki

American Flags and Michigan Flags to fly at half-staff Wednesday, August 7th through Thursday, August 8th in the State of Michigan in honor of former state Sen. David Plawecki. Plawecki served as state senator for the 12th Senate District from 1971-82, and also served as the majority floor leader. He was the youngest state senator elected in Michigan history at the age of 22. He was influential in the adoption of the state’s Open Meetings Act, Bullard-Plawecki Employee Right to Know Act, and Freedom of Information Act. Plawecki later went on to serve as deputy director of the former state Department of Labor and Economic Growth.
