American Flags and Missouri Flags to fly at half-staff Wednesday, December 14th in the state of Missouri in honor of Frederick Guthrie Jr.
According to the office of the governor:
Frederick “Fred” Guthrie Jr. was a trooper with the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Trooper Guthrie, along with his K-9 partner, Reed, died in the line of duty on Aug. 1 while serving the citizens of Missouri while on flood duty in Holt County.
Trooper Guthrie began his career as an officer with the Missouri State Water Patrol in 1994, before transitioning in January 2011 to become a trooper in the new Water Patrol Division of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, where he was assigned to Troop A. In 2008, he was one of the first recipients to receive the Missouri Medal of Valor, to honor his bravery in carrying out a water rescue during a storm on Smithville Lake in 2007.

American Flags and Massachusetts Flags to fly at half-staff Thursday, December 15th in the commonwealth of Massachusetts in honor of Firefighter Jon D. Davies Sr.
Mr. Davies was a firefighter with the Worcester Fire Department who died in the line of duty.

Flags are to be flown at half-staff at the state Capitol complex, in the city of Blacksburg and in Montgomery County.

American Flags and Michigan Flags to fly at half-staff Tuesday, December 13th in the state of Michigan in honor of US Rep. Howard Wolpe.
According to the office of the governor:
Wolpe was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1978. He represented southwestern Michigan and served seven terms. He was chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee’s Subcommittee on Africa from 1982 to 1992, where he played an instrumental role in the changes to U.S. policy on Africa, including enabling the passage of the Comprehensive Anti-Apartheid Act of 1986. He also chaired the Investigations and Oversight Subcommittee of the House Science, Space and Technology Committee. His other roles in Congress included co-chairing the bipartisan Northeast-Midwest Congressional Coalition and the Congressional Energy and Environmental Study Conference. Prior to entering Congress, he served in the Michigan House of Representatives and as a member of the Kalamazoo City Commission.

American Flags and Michigan Flags to fly at half-staff Monday, December 12th in the state of Michigan in honor of US Marine Staff Sgt Vincent J. Bell.
According to the office of the governor:
Staff Sgt Bell died Nov. 30 in the Helmand province of Afghanistan while conducting combat operations. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion of the 11th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, at Camp Pendleton in California. Bell joined the Marines in 2001 and was serving his second deployment.
He was a two-time recipient of the Purple Heart, awarded twice the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, two Combat Action Ribbons, the Presidential Unit Citation, the Navy Unit Commendation, three Marine Corp Good Conduct Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, three Iraqi Campaign Medals, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and four Sea Service Deployment Ribbons.

American Flags and Michigan Flags to fly at half-staff Friday, December 9th in the state of Michigan in honor of US Army Pfc Jackie Lee Diener II.
According to the office of the governor:
Pfc Diener died Nov. 21 in the Kandahar province of Afghanistan from wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit. He was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 71st Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division in Fort Drum, New York. Diener joined the Army in March of 2011 and arrived at Fort Drum in July. He served as a cavalry scout and had been deployed since September.
His awards and decorations include: the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal w/Bronze Service Star, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon and the Combat and Special Skills Badge Basic Marksmanship Qual Badge. He was awarded posthumously the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the NATO Medal, and the Combat Action Medal.

American Flags and Iowa Flags to fly at half-staff Friday, December 2nd in the state of Iowa in honor of US Marine Cpl. Zachary C. Reiff.
According to the office of the governor:
Cpl. Reiff was injured in action on November 18, 2011, when he was hit by an improvised explosive device (IED) in Afghanistan. He later died from wounds related to the explosion.

According to the office of the governor:
Private Jackie L. Diener II died of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with small arms fire. He was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 71st Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, based at Fort Drum. Private Diener was from Boyne City, Michigan.
