Half-Staff Massachusetts Flag – Honoring James Rice

American Flags and Massachusetts Flags to fly at half-staff Friday, December 30th in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in honor of James Rice.

According to the office of the governor:
Mr. Rice was a firefighter with the Peabody Fire Department who died in the line of duty on Friday, December 23rd.

Half-Staff West Virginia Flags – Honoring Michael Lakin

American Flags and West Virginia Flags to fly at half-staff Tuesday, December 27th in the state of West Virginia in honor of Air National Guardsman Lieutenant Colonel Michael Lakin.

According to the office of the governor:
Lakin was commissioned as an officer in the Unites States Marine Corps. He left active duty and later joined the 130th West Virginia Air National Guard and spent over a year flying combat missions into Iraq and Afghanistan, performing challenging low-level flying into some of the world’s most dangerous airports.

As a member and flight instructor of the State Division of Aviation, Lakin piloted the State’s King Air 350 and Cessna Grand Caravan airplanes. At the time of his death, Lakin was on military leave from the State due to his active duty status with the National Guard, serving in Iraq. Lakin was tragically killed while performing stunt aerial maneuvers during a recertification skills test.

Pennsylvania Flags to fly at half-staff beginning today, December 19th at the Capitol Complex and throughout Washington County in honor of East Washington Police Officer John “David” Dryer.

According to the office of the governor:
Officer Dryer was shot and killed last night. Flags will remain at half-staff until the date of his burial.

American Flags and Virginia Flags to fly at half-staff Saturday, December 17th at the Capitol Complex in Virginia and in the County of New Kent in honor of US Army Specialist Ryan M. Lumley.

American Flags and Kansas Flags to fly at half-staff Thursday, December 15th in the state of Kansas in honor of Police Sgt. David Enzbrenner.

According to the office of the governor:
Police Sgt. David Enzbrenner was killed in the line of duty on December 9th, 2011, while serving his community of Atchison. Sgt. Enzbrenner joined the Atchison Police Department 24 years ago.

Half-Staff Arizona Flags – Honoring Johnathan McCain

American Flags and Arizona Flags to fly at half-staff Thursday, December 15th in the state of Arizona in honor of Army Sergeant First Class (SFC) Johnathan B. McCain.

According to the office of the governor:
SFC McCain died November 13, 2011, in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He died of injuries sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his military vehicle. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Wainwright, Alaska.
