American Flags and Iowa Flags to fly at half-staff Friday, December 2nd in the state of Iowa in honor of US Marine Cpl. Zachary C. Reiff.

According to the office of the governor:
Cpl. Reiff was injured in action on November 18, 2011, when he was hit by an improvised explosive device (IED) in Afghanistan. He later died from wounds related to the explosion.

Half-Staff New York Flags – Jackie L. Diener II

American Flags and New York Flags to fly at half-staff Tuesday, November 29th in the state of New York in honor of Private Jackie L. Diener II.

According to the office of the governor:
Private Jackie L. Diener II died of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with small arms fire. He was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 71st Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, based at Fort Drum. Private Diener was from Boyne City, Michigan.

Half-Staff Kansas Flags – James Burnett, Jr

American Flags and Kansas Flags to fly at half-staff Saturday, November 26th in the state of Kansas in honor of US Army SPC James Burnett, Jr.

According to the office of the governor:
SPC Burnett was killed in action after an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated near their vehicle while their unit was on patrol. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division stationed in Fort Wainwright, Alaska.

Alaska State Flags to fly at half-staff Thursday, November 17th in honor of former State Representative Phillip Guy.

According to the office of the governor:
Guy was raised in the Yup’ik community of Kwethluk. He was elected in 1972 to the Alaska House and served until 1980. He was an early president of the Association of Village Council Presidents and worked as a land planner for Kwethluk Incorporated before his retirement.

American Flags and Arizona Flags to fly at half-staff Tuesday, November 15th in the state of Arizona in honor of Army Sergeant First Class (SFC) Johnathan B. McCain.

According to the office of the governor:
SFC McCain died November 13, 2011 in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He died of injuries sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his military vehicle. He was assigned to A Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Wainwright, Alaska.

The Governor will order that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on the day of SFC McCain’s interment. Arrangements are still pending.

Half-Staff Arkansas Flags – Sarina N. Butcher Interment

American Flags and Arkansas Flags to fly at half-staff Friday, November 11th in the state of Arkansas in honor of Army Specialist Sarina N. Butcher.

According to the office of the governor:
Specialist Butcher was killed in action earlier this month while on a resupply mission in Afghanistan.

American Flags and Kentucky Flags to fly at half-staff Thursday, November 10th in the commonwealth of Kentucky in honor of Sgt. James M. Darrough.

According to the office of the governor:
Sgt. Darrough died in Kabul province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his vehicle with a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device. He was assigned to 101st Finance Company, 101st Special Troops Battalion, 101st Sustainment Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.

Half-Staff Missouri Flags – Billy Joe Siercks

American Flags and Missouri Flags to fly at half-staff Thursday, Noveber 10th in the state of Missouri in honor of US Army First Sergeant Billy Joe Siercks.

According to the office of the governor:
First Sergeant Siercks was a soldier in the U.S. Army serving in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. He died on Oct. 1 of wounds he sustained on Sept. 27, 2011, when insurgents attacked his unit using indirect fire in Afghanistan.

In addition to the flags statewide, Gov. Nixon has ordered that the U.S. and Missouri flags at all state buildings in Benton County be flown at half-staff from Nov. 12 to Nov. 17.

First Sergeant Siercks was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 10th Aviation Regiment, 10th Combat Aviation Brigade, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal With Combat Distinguishing Device “V”, Bronze Star Medal (2 awards), Purple Heart (2 awards), Army Commendation Medal (2 awards), Army Achievement Medal (3 awards), Army Good Conduct Medal (4 awards), National Defense Service Medal, Kosovo Campaign Medal With Bronze Service Star, Afghanistan Campaign Medal With Bronze Service Star (2 awards), Iraq Campaign Medal With Bronze Service Star (2 awards), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon (3 awards), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (3 awards), NATO Medal (2 awards), Combat Infantryman Badge, Senior Parachutist Badge, Pathfinder Badge, Drill Sergeant Identification Badge, Combat and Special Skill Badge Basic Marksmanship Qualification Badge (Bar, Weapon: Rifle (Inscription: Rifle), Expert), Meritorious Unit Commendation (Army), and the Overseas Service Bar (5 awards).
