Team USA – Raise Our Flag

Wednesday, May 30th, 2012

All Star Flags, an authorized Annin Dealer, is proud to be a part of the Team Behind the Team in support of fundraising for the U.S. Olympic Team. The U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC), a non-profit organization, has created the “Raise Our Flag” campaign to support the athletes through corporate sponsorships and donations. The USOC has asked Annin Flagmakers to provide the flag that will be made from donated stitches and will be carried by American athletes at the London Games’ opening ceremony. The flag is being symbolically created in Annin’s Verona, New Jersey plant through July 12, 2012. For more information about purchasing a stitch or tracking the tally of stitches, go to https://raiseourflag.teamusa.org/Content/index.aspx#!home today.

All Star Flags purchased stitch 8,769 on behalf of our dedicated employees and stitch 8,770 in honor of our loyal customers who fly their American Flags year round!

Flags Made in the USA

Thursday, March 15th, 2012

We had a nice couple in our store here at All Star Flags today. They were visiting the US from France and came to buy some American flags. The interesting part was that the second question they asked while looking at our selection of flags was…Are your American flags Made in the USA? We proudly answered that they are all Made in the USA and they were pleased to know that. I found it interesting that a couple visiting from France thought it important that the flags they were buying were Made in the USA. I wish that all Americans insisted the same…

South Dakota Possible Flag Change

Friday, January 27th, 2012

The state of South Dakota is considering changing its flag—again! More than 80 lawmakers are in support of replacing the current state flag with a new design featuring a sunburst, a Native American medicine wheel, and concentric blue circles. The new flag, designed in 1989 by Spearfish native Dick Termes, does not include the state seal or any lettering, which many believe is essential in creating a great flag. The current flag, which sports the seal and the state nickname, “The Mount Rushmore State,” has 17 words on it. The first official flag, adopted in 1909, featured a sun with the words “South Dakota” above it and “The Sunshine State” below. On the reverse side was the seal with the state motto “Under God the People Rule.” The seal and the sun were combined and the nickname changed to “The Mount Rushmore State” in 1992, which is the South Dakota flag of today. It was ranked as the fifth-worst state flag in 2001 by the members of the North American Vexillological Association, an organization dedicated to the scientific study of flags.

We will continue with updates as this potential legislation moves forward.
