Half-Staff Kentucky Flags – Honoring Bremer Alexander Ehrler

Kentucky flags to fly at half-staff Thursday, February 14th in the Commonwealth of Kentucky in honor of Bremer Alexander Ehrler.

According to the office of the governor:
Bremer Alexander Ehrler held many roles during his decades of service in Jefferson County and the Commonwealth of Kentucky. He worked for the United States Post Office for 37 years, serving as Kentuckiana’s District Manager/Postmaster and the President of the National Association of Postmasters. He then went on to serve as Jefferson County Clerk, Jefferson County Judge-Executive and was elected as Kentucky’s Secretary of State in 1988. Ehrler also served as Jefferson County Sherriff and was a retired Lieutentant Colonel in the Army.

PFC Gorman was a member of the 710 Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team. His awards and decorations include the Army Service Ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.

Half-Staff Maine Flags – Honoring Ruth Straitiff Ham

Maine State Flags to fly at half-staff in the town of Shapleigh on Sunday, February 10th in honor of Ruth Straitiff Ham.

According to the office of the governor:
Ruth was instrumental in starting the local food pantry and served for more than 40 years within the town government in a number of positions. She was also a Girl Scout leader and volunteer in her church. The town honored her by dedicating recreation fields in her name.

American Flags and Delaware Flags to fly at half-staff Wednesday, February 6th through Thursday, February 7th in honor of former Delaware National Guard Adjutant General Arthur Episcopo.

According to the office of the governor:
Lt. Gen. Episcopo served as Adjutant General of the Delaware National Guard – the highest ranking military position in Delaware – from 1989 to 1993, retiring in 1993 after 42 years of service in the National Guard. Upon retirement, Governor Carper awarded him the state’s highest award; The Delaware Conspicuous Service Cross (first Gold Star) and promoted him to Lieutenant General.

Half-Staff Alaska Flags – Honoring Martin Farrell

Alaska State Flags to fly at half-staff Thursday, February 7th in honor of former State Representative Martin “Marty” Farrell.

According to the office of the governor:
Representative Farrell was a US Marine during the Korean War and moved to Alaska in 1959 and practiced law in many small communities across the state. He served a term in the Alaska House of Representatives from 1971-72. Farrell was chairman of the House Resources Committee in 1972, when the Legislature took up the first major overhaul of state regulatory and right-of-way laws following the announcement that the Trans Alaska Pipeline System would be built to transport oil from the large North Slope discoveries.

Half-Staff Michigan Flags – Honoring Mark Schoonhoven

American Flags and Michigan Flags to fly at half-staff Thursday, February 7th in the State of Michigan in honor of US Army Sgt. Mark Schoonhoven.

According to the office of the governor:
Sgt. Schoonhoven died Jan. 20, 2013 at Brooke Army Medical Center in Houston, Texas from wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device on Dec. 15, 2012 in Kabul, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 32nd Transportation Company, 43rd Sustainment Brigade, 4th Infantry Division in Fort Carson, Colo. Schoonhoven completed basic training at Fort Knox, KY after joining the U.S. Army in 2006. He served as a motor transport operator for the 32nd Transportation Company, 43rd Sustainment Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, and previously served in the 82nd Airborne Division. Schoonhoven was serving his fifth tour of duty.
