Half-Staff Michigan State Flags – Honoring Daniel Price

American Flags and Michigan Flags to fly at half-staff Monday, August 13th in the state of Michigan in honor of US Marine Gunnery Sgt. Daniel Price.

According to the office of the governor:
Sgt. Daniel Price died July 29 while conducting combat operations in Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 1st Marine Special Operations Battalion, Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Immediately following his graduation from high school, Price joined the U.S. Marine Corps in July 2003. He enlisted in several special operations schools, including the Army Airborne School, and completed the combat water safety swimmer and combatant diver courses. Price served three tours of duty in Iraq, where he was promoted to sergeant, and three tours in Afghanistan. He received the Bronze Star with Combat V, a Purple Heart, three Combat Action Ribbons and three Good Conduct Medals.

American Flags to fly at half-staff throughout the country Monday, August 6th through Friday, August 10th out of respect for the victims of the Sikh Temple tragedy.

According to the Office of the President:
As a mark of respect for the victims of the senseless acts of violence perpetrated on August 5, 2012, in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, by the authority vested in me as President of the United States by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, I hereby order that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset, August 10, 2012. I also direct that the flag shall be flown at half-staff for the same length of time at all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations.

Half-Staff Iowa State Flags – Honoring Michael Ristau

American Flags and Iowa Flags to fly at half-staff Saturday, August 4th through Sunday, August 5th in the state of Iowa in honor of US Army Sgt. Michael Ristau.

According to the office of the governor:
Sgt. Ristau was killed in Afghanistan, while serving on active duty in the U.S. Army, on July 13, when the vehicle he was riding in was attacked by an improvised explosive device.

American Flags and Virginia Flags to fly at half-staff Friday, August 3rd at the Capitol complex in Virginia in honor of US Army Staff Sergeant Brandon Pepper.

Flags are also authorized for display at half-staff in the County of Accomack.

According to the office of the governor:
Washington State Department of Natural Resources diver David Scheinost died July 24th while diving in the waters near Bainbridge Island to sample for paralytic shellfish poisoning.

Half-Staff Minnesota State Flags – Honoring I-35W Bridge Collapse Victims

American Flags and Minnesota Flags to fly at half-staff Wednesday, August 1st in honor of the lives lost in the Interstate 35W bridge collapse of five years ago.

According to the office of the governor:
This Wednesday, August 1 at 6:05 p.m. marks the fifth anniversary of the I-35W bridge collapse over the Mississippi River on Wednesday, August 1, 2007, which took the lives of 13 people and injured 145 others. Governor Dayton has set aside this day to honor and remember the victims; to offer continued sympathy and support to affected families and communities; and to thank and recognize the police officers, fire and rescue personnel, and other first responders.

American Flags and Michigan Flags to fly at half-staff Friday, August 3rd in the state of Michigan in honor of US Marine Sgt. Justin Hansen.

According to the office of the governor:
US Marine Sgt. Hansen died July 24 while conducting combat operations in Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 2nd Marine Special Operations Battalion, Camp Lejeune, N.C. Sgt. Hansen attended the School of Infantry at Camp Pendleton, Calif. He was first stationed at the 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion at Camp Schwab in Okinawa, Japan, and later deployed with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit. Hansen joined the Special Operations Command in June 2009. He served a tour of duty in Iraq and was serving his second tour in Afghanistan. Hansen received a Purple Heart, two Combat Action Ribbons and two Good Conduct Medals.
