Adopted in 1860, the flag of Ecuador is similar to the flags of Colombia and Venezuela. The top half of the flag is yellow, symbolizing the riches of the land. The bottom half is made up of two horizontal stripes of equal dimension. Blue is on top, representing the sea and sky, with red below symbolizing blood shed during the struggle for independence. On the yellow and blue stripes in the center of the flag is the Ecuadorian Coat of Arms. |
