American Flags and Kansas Flags to fly at half-staff Friday, May 3rd in honor of the Kansas Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Day.
According to the office of the governor:
The 31st Annual Kansas Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony will be held on Friday at noon on the south steps of the capitol grounds. Since last year, Kansas has lost two law enforcement officers in the line of duty. On December 16, 2012, Topeka Police Cpl. David Gogian and Officer Jeff Atherly were fatally shot after they responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle in a grocery store parking lot.
Cpl. Gogian and Officer Atherly’s names join the names of 267 law enforcement officers already listed on the Kansas Law Enforcement Officers Memorial located on the northeast corner of the capitol grounds.
